This building, situated on the southeast corner of Homer and Hastings Streets, housed, among numerous other tenants, O'Brien Hall and the Metropolitan Club. The building adjoining the Metropolitan on the left is the De Beck Building. Homer Street is on the right and West Hastings Street runs in front of the Metropolitan and De Beck buildings. The Rocky Mountain Portrait Company occupied one of the storefronts in the Metropolitan Block on 15 Mar 1894. Designed by R. Mackay Fripp, the Metropolitan was built in 1892 for the BC Land and Investment Agency; it was demolished in 1949.

This photograph of a CPR locomotive, a coal car and two passenger cards was originally taken in 1889 by the Montreal firm Wm. Notman and Son. The photographer was William McFarlane Notman. It is not known if Nerlich and Company had permission to publish the Notman photograph as a stereograph.
