Photos | W.P. Coughlan studio portrait ID, 1888-1900. The photograph is a head-and-shoulders of a woman wearing a hat. |
Documents | Great Eastern Photographic and Advertising Co.'s letter ad, Nanaimo Free Press, 1 Aug 1888, p. 3. This notice provoked a sardonic reply from one of Nanaimo's resident photographers, W.P. Coughlan in the 4 Aug 1888 issue under the title "Oh, Photographic, Is It?" | |
W.P. Coughlan news, Nanaimo Free Press, 25 Jun 1889, p. 2. Coughlan was reacting to the presence of J.B. Uren who had opened a studio on 24 Jun 1889 under the name Mainland Photograph Company. As intimated by Coughlan, he faced the same issue in 1888 when the Great Eastern Photographic and Advertising Company visited Nanaimo. |
