    • STATUS: Commercial.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Established in Rossland in 1896 or 1897 as Carpenter and Millar, the partnership dissolved about 1899 and Carpenter ran the business as Carpenter and Company. He worked out of Spokane between at least 1905 and 1908, then moved to Vancouver and remained there until 1913. His studio in Vancouver was also known as the Carpenter Studio.

      The 1901 Canada census, which enumerates him as J. William Carpenter, indicates he immigrated to Canada in 1897. He was married and had a daughter (Ethel) and a son (Ernest). His religion was Baptist and his occupation was as a photographer.
