    • STATUS: Amateur?.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Likely not the same person as F.S. Fujiwara who operated as a photographer in Vancouver, BC, between about 1910-1941. The digitized examples of his work at the Library of Congress, though many are mounted, appear to be the work of an amateur photographer. Fujiwara copyrighted the photograph and several are dated 10 Dec 1897.
    • IDENTIFYING MARKS: print surface may be numbered. Print mount may be numbered and titled by hand. Print mount may bear a US Copyright Office blue copyright date stamp, for example, "Dec 10 1897." Siberia photos may bear this printed copyright statement "Copyright 1897 F.D. Fujiwara."

      According to the description of one 1897 photo, "Fujiwara's photos document a voyage of the maritime revenue cutter Bear to Point Barrow in that year. During the harsh winter of 1897-1898, Lieutenant David H. Jarvis of USRC Bear led a relief party to 265 whalers whose ships had been stranded in the ice off the northern coast of Alaska."
