    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He first arrived in Canada aboard the Laurentian from Liverpool, Eng., on 8 Oct 1893 with the rest of his family. He started out as a framer with S.J. Thompson's studio in 1905 -- his 1905 marriage registration record states he was a photographer and framer, then graduated to be a photographer with Thompson in 1908. He purchased the North Vancouver studio of Baglow and Thorpe in Apr 1909 and was described as having been in charge of S.J. Thompson's Vancouver studio for "some time." He operated under the name Carbutt Photo Studio in 1914 and later as the North Vancouver Photo Studio. He also worked as a music teacher at times as well as selling photo supplies.
