    • STATUS: Amateur; Commercial.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Originally from Great Britain, Bradbury emigrated to Canada from Borneo in 1888. A telegrapher, he photographed throughout the Vancouver region as well as along the Sunshine Coast. Peter Grant's book on Vancouver Island postcard photographers notes that he worked at San Mateo Bay (Barkley Sound) beginning in Dec 1902, then supervised at Cape Lazo near Comox starting in 1908, and moved to another station on the Sechelt Peninsula (Sunshine Coast) in 1913.
      In the late 1910s and 1920s, his wife Dorothy worked as a school teacher.
      According to his death registration record he was a commercial photographer who had practiced for 20 years and had last worked at his trade in 1935. The business directories tell a different story, however, in that he worked continuously as a telegraph operator in Vancouver from 1922 to at least 1935. He was only ever listed as a photographer in the business directories in 1916 and 1918. The business directories also show him residing in Vancouver in 1907, 1913 and more or less continuously beginning in 1915.
      Online sources also indicate Charles Bradbury (I suspect it was his wife behind the scenes) was involved in the printing of a chapbook in the 1920s and a limited edition of All Creatures Great and Small in 1931 illustrated with linoblock prints by Vancouver artist Ross Anthony Lort.
