    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He was the topographical assistant to First Lieutenant Frederick Schwatka during a military reconnaissance of Alaska. The expedition ascended the Yukon River and illegally passed through BC and the Yukon following its departure from Portland, Oregon, on 22 May 1883. Schwatka described Homan's photographic work in one of his books on the 1883 expedition, Exploration in Alaska (1900). According to Sherwood, it was Homan who acted as the expedition photographer.
