    • STATUS: Commercial.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Brightman exhibited and won awards at the 4th International Photographic Exhibition in Bristol, Eng., in Dec 1896. A view in Shirehampton Park (Bristol) was praised as "charming". Other members of his family were also photographers and mentioned in an article about an 1897 photographic exhibition in Bristol. While working as a photographer in Brisol he received shares in May 1904 and Oct 1905 the Great Western Railway from probated estates. Having been in partnership with his father from ca. 1899-1902 when his father passed away, Brightman was bankrupt by May 1906. He blamed his situation on "bad trade".
In 1912, he immigrated to Canada shortly thereafter and worked in Vancouver as a photographer for the Dominion Engraving Company and Stuart Thomson.
By 1921 he had returned to living in Bristol and was working as a "commercial traveler".
