    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: In the 1910 US census he was working in Seattle, WA, as a carpenter. He worked out of the Empress Hotel in Prince Rupert around 1913; a Paul Kauffman who operated a music store there may have been his brother. H.V. Kauffman served in the US armed forces during World War One. His principal residence was Seattle and when he married in 1930 he gave his occupation as a photographer, which is also his calling in the 1930 USA census.
