In October 1901 Yonge was alleged to have stolen a photographic outfit from a photographer named Schmidt in Anacortes. Arrested in November in Aberdeen, he asked the sheriff if he could collect money owed him at his studio. The sheriff obligingly sat around all day, but in the evening Yonge escaped through a window in his darkroom. He found his way to Victoria and was re-arrested and taken back to Washington by a sheriff.
