  • Notes
    • STATUS: Commercial.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He had a brief partnership in Prince Rupert as Mineard and Allen (1910) and also worked there under the business name J.D. Allen Photographic Company.

The 1911 census of Canada indicated he was a lodger, had emigrated from England in 1904, worshiped as an Anglican and was employed as a merchant selling stationery.

On 10 Nov 1914 he enlisted in Victoria in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and gave his occupation as photographer. He was a member of the 16th Canadian Scottish during World War One.

Following his return to Prince Rupert after the war he appears to have abandoned photography and worked at a variety of occupations before retiring in 1949 to Victoria.

His son Peter Dennis Allen donated over 500 of his father's negatives to the Prince Rupert City and Regional Archives.
