    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: The first known photographer of Japanese ancestry in BC, he worked at Claxton (1892-1895) and was working at Port Simpson by 1900. Between 1901-1902 a R.L. Tashiro was working as a photographer at Fort Simpson, "formerly called Port Simpson," which was a HBC post about 15 miles from Alaska in the Cassiar district. In the 1903 business directory, Fort Simpson was once again called Port Simpson, however, there is no listing for R.L. Tashiro.

Between 1897 and 1900 a Jackson Tashiro was listed in the business directories as working in Port Essington on the Skeena River. This was likely the same person as R.Z. Tashiro.
