  STATUS: Commercial. BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He arrived in Victoria from England in 1890 and worked as a travelling salesman for a Montreal shoe manufacturing company. He appears to have combined his photography with his travelling. The Provincial Archives of British Columbia purchased Chapman's collection from him in 1936. Chapman's output ranged over a wide number of photographic subjects and he marketed many of his views as postcards. IDENTIFYING MARKS: some late 1890s round prints signed "Howard Chapman Victoria, B.C."
