    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Hired by S.A. Spencer out of the San Francisco studio of Bradley & Rulofson, Desmond arrived in Victoria in Jun 1874 and worked in the Victoria Theatre Photographic Gallery until that Oct when he went to work for Noah Shakespeare in the gallery next door to the Theatre Photographic Gallery. Spencer replaced Desmond with a Mr. Miller, also from San Francisco. Based on California voter registration record indexes available through FamilySearch.org, Desmond appears to have returned to California in the mid- to late 1870s. A full account of Desmond's varied career is found in Palmquist & Kailbourn (2000).
