    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He attempted to establish a photo studio in the Norwegian colony at Bella Coola but was unsuccessful. After arriving in Feb 1896, his wife and children joined him the following month. He returned to Crookston, MN, the following summer. Ivar Fougner, who wrote of Bangen in his diary, said on 26 Dec 1896 (p. 72): "S. Bangen is determined to leave in the spring. He has taken some splendid photoes [sic] and intend to get more. I think I shall have him take the old camp and the interior of my cabin before he leaves."
