    • STATUS: Amateur.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Sponsored by the Church Missionary Society in England, Duncan voyaged to BC and arrived at Port Simpson in 1857. He established Metlakatla in 1862 and ruled it with devotion and discipline. He is supposed to have brought back photographic equipment from San Francisco or England after a trip to the latter in 1870. At least one if not two of Duncan's followers also took up photography after the move in 1887 to New Metlakatla, AK.
