  • Notes
    • STATUS: Commercial.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He is supposed to have arrived in the Okanagan in 1889. He was listed as a farm labourer in the 1891 Canada census. He became a professional photographer when he discovered a need for such a trade. He advertised in the first issue of the Vernon News and moved to that town in 1892. He relocated to Armstrong about 1899 and retired to Victoria in 1935 (death registration record information provided by his widow Elizabeth Holliday) or 1937; the latter date would be more correct as he was listed in the 1935 and 1936 directories as a photographer in Armstrong. His widow indicated for his death registration record that he had been in Canada for 50 years (1905), however, that was clearly an error. She may have confused, in her stress, their marriage year with his year of immigration or simply not known the latter. Holliday was also an amateur painter of the Okanagan landscape.
