    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: During the Jul 1906 Canada Northwest Provinces census he was living in Winnipeg, MB (no occupations were enumerated in this special census); the census notes he had immigrated in 1906. A Canadian passenger confirms that he and his wife arrived in Saint John, NB, on 11 Mar 1906 aboard the Lake Erie with a final destination of Winnipeg; he gave his occupation as bricklayer.
      Prior to moving to Vancouver, BC, he operated Sutton's Photo Gallery in Moose Jaw, SK (1913-1918). According to an Ancestry.ca record, he served with the Royal Air Force in 1916 (service number 42076).
      He was a partner in Gowen Sutton Company Ltd. After his wife died, Gowen sold his shares to Sutton on 6 Feb 1930. The company continued to operate as the Gowen Sutton Company and was dissolved on 6 Oct 1987.
      According to Sutton's death registration record, he had worked as a photographer for 38 years, retiring in 1946. The business directories last list him in Vancouver in 1932 as a manager of the Gowen Sutton Company, with no listings for him in Vancouver thereafter. By 1940 he was living in Ganges on Salt Spring Island and working as a farmer.
