    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Lumb Stocks immigrated in 1910 following two brothers who had pre-empted land near Okanagan Centre. The 1911 Canada census lists him as living in Coldsteam which is near Vernon. He returned to England and then went back to Canada in Mar 1913. His fiancee arrived in Canada on 1 May 1915 and they were married in Kelowna on 20 May 1915 by his father. He had a brief partnership (1918-1919) with H.A. Willis, G.H.E. Hudson's brother-in-law, as Willis and Stocks. Stocks was first listed as a solo photographer in the 1920 business directory. He was listed as a partner in 1927 in Ribelin and Stocks. Between 1934 and 1947 he operated as Stocks' Photo and Art Store (or variants thereof). His son J.P. Stocks was listed as a partner in 1947 and took over the business following his father's retirement that year. Lumb Stocks moved to White Rock and passed away there on 27 Jan 1949.
The UBC Library Okanagan Special Collections description of its Lumb Stocks collections contains the following:
In Vernon, Stocks purchased a camera from G.H.E. "Huddy" Hudson. Soon Stocks was offered a job by Hudson and he joined his photography studio. He became a partner and took over operations of the firm in 1916 when Hudson returned to England during WWI, renaming the enterprise "Hudson-Stocks & Co." After deciding to stay permanently in England, Hudson asked Stocks in 1918 to buy out his partnership. Instead Stocks made a purchase from Hudson and his Penticton partner, Ken Chadwick, for the photography firm there and moved his family to the Penticton area.
