  STATUS: Commercial. BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: In the 1901 Canada census he said he had first arrived in Canada in 1881. He initially lived in Manitoba for at least a decade where he married and fathered two of his three children. His third child, a daughter, was born in Alberni, BC, in 1894. Up until at least 1910 he was associated with the Alberni area on Vancouver Island (Alberni, New Alberni, Port Alberni). By 1911 he had relocated to Bamfield and the 1911 Canada census gives his occupation as "photography". A Sep 1911 Canadian passenger list also lists his occupation as "photographer". Beginning in Sep 1917 he associated himself with A.H. Maynard, the latter printing and assembling Porritt's photographs into albums or folders. The 1918 business directory listed him as retired.
