Previously, he had resided in Calgary from Jun 1902 to Apr 1923, information confirmed through an Ancestry.ca family tree. He had a cousin, J.C. Ring, in Calgary and a sister in Los Angeles, CA. His occupation in California was a photographer and that was what he intended to do in Canada. He went back to the USA via Montana in Oct 1928, but by 1930 was back in Calgary operating the Harmony Art Studio.
