    • STATUS: Commercial.
    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He immigrated in 1907 via Liverpool, Eng., to Winnipeg, MB, via Quebec City, QC, on the Lake Champlain. His wife's name was Alice Maria (1871-1953) and his two daughters were Marjorie Grace (1896-1972) and Elsie Winifred (1897-1991). His occupation was given as schoolmaster.

In the 1911 Canada census, he was listed as James Wigley and with his wife and two daughters was farming in Alberta. He and his family were all naturalized Canadians. They do not appear to have been enumerated in the 1921 Canada census.

He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in North Vancouver in Oct 1918 and noted that he had had six years of prior military experience in England. His personnel file also indicates he had originally enlisted as a sapper (engineer) on 7 Mar 1916. All his military service was in Canada. He was discharged on 11 Mar 1919 with a rank of corporal. During part or all of his military service his wife was living in Los Angeles, CA.

His older daughter Marjorie G. Wigley was listed in the 1918 Henderson's Vancouver directory as a clerk for Camera and Arts. A Mrs. Wigley along with Marjorie and Elsie resided at 742 Nelson St. A Madge Wigley, living at the same address that year, was a school teacher and possibly a relative. He worked for or owned Home and Commercial Photographers in 1919 and the following year operated out of a different address as a commercial photographer and exchange service for cameras.

When he and his wife immigrated via Seattle, WA, to Los Angeles, CA, in 1922 he gave his occupation as photographer. In the 1930 US census he and his wife are living in Lomita, CA, and his occupation is "gamekeeper." On his 1936 death registration record his occupation, which he had pursued for five years, was given as artist (pictures).
