    • BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: He appears as a photographer in the 1891 census under "Union Mines." McLean was listed as an agent for the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway in 1898. In the 1901 census he is listed as a storekeeper in Union. The 1911 census has him and his family living in Vancouver; he is working as a shipper for a grocer. By 1921, according to the census, he was back living on Vancouver Island in Mayo, BC, and working as a switchman or signalman. Although he died on Vancouver Island, he is buried in Vancouver's Mountain View Cemetery.

      A BVIPA photo has the family name McLean on the caption. Halftone illustrations reproduced from his photographs appear in the 24 May 1899 issue of the Cumberland News.
