Joseph Merrill's funeral notice, Colonist, 31 Mar 1895, p. 5.
While it is not known if this is the same Joseph Merrill who worked for J. Savannah up until at least 1895, this funeral notice indicates the spiritual connection between two members of the Victoria photographic community, O.C. Hastings and one of the Maynard family men who acted as a pall bearer.

News article about Alexander Wilson partnering with C.F. Dowsett, Chilliwack Progress, 1 Apr 1920, p. 1.
Wilson did not have "over 20 years experience" as a photographer. He worked as a photographer for Bishop and Christie in Vancouver between ca. 1913 and 1915 when he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He would have been simply too young to have chalked up those many years as a photographer prior to partnering with C.F. Dowsett in Chilliwack.
