Camera and Arts storefront, 610 Granville St., 1917.
In the left window is a circular banner welcoming visitors to the War Dance and Carnival sponsored by the British Columbia Commercial Travellers' Association; it was held between May 2 and 5, 1917 (Vancouver Daily News-Advertiser, 17 Mar 1917, p. 3, "Rotary Club Endorses Travellers' War Dance"). This was the only year in which this event was held. R.P. Dunne's name, partially obscured by the curtains, is in both windows; he was the sole proprietor between about 1917 and 1927. The right-hand window display is given over entirely to "Local and Rocky Mountain Views," many, if not all of which, may be the work of S.J. Thompson, one of whose businesses had last occupied this very space around 1911. The Shaw Brothers, who acquired many of the Thompson glass negatives, used the storefront in 1912, followed by the British Canadian Photo Supply Company, Limited, between 1913 and 1914. There is no entry in the 1915 Vancouver city street directory for 610 Granville St. Courtesy of City of Vancouver Archives, CVA 8-05.
