    BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: The 1911 Census of Canada indicates he emigrated from England in 1903 and that he lived with his mother Lucy Austin. They were both of the Anglican faith and his occupation was given as bookkeeper. He is listed as a photographer in 1914, but no occupation is shown in 1923 and he is not listed in 1924.

    Austin is acknowledged in the foreword, along with Victoria photographer J. Howard A. Chapman, with supplying photographs reproduced in A.O. Wheeler's book The Selkirk Mountains: A Guide for Mountain Climbers and Pilgrims (Winnipeg: Stovel Company, 1911).
